Great compliment to the book Nov 22, 2009
We read the Harvey Karp book, but when I saw a clip from the dvd in my pediatrician's office, I realized our vision of the 5 S's was a little different. The video helped solidify the method for us. Our baby is very happy and at 5 weeks she sleeps for 5 hours at a time. The only thing we found that is missing from the formula is temperature - our baby is sensative to temperature and will fuss if she gets too hot. It's imperative for her that we have the room between 70-72 degrees when she is swaddled.

Both the video and book bring an interesting angle to the subject. It has been most helpful with a reflux baby. I would agree with his concept of a fourth trimester if you look at a when a baby's interactive and functional skills start to really come into play. A book that goes hand in hand with this is: Colic Solved: The Essential Guide to Infant Reflux and the Care of Your Crying, Difficult-to- Soothe Baby

Our hospital offered baby classes and this video was going to be our final class. Our little baby arrived early so we missed the class. After several nights of sleeping very little by week 3 we ordered the video. This video's five "S" tips are lifesavers.

I think the Happiest Baby on the Block is a must have for new parents. I found it invaluable. The book and the DVD are a great combo. There are tips in the book like, turning the hairdryer on to quiet a baby and it REALLY WORKS! And, the DVD provides the visual that you need and there nothing like seeing the Five "S" in action. I'm a believer.

The Happiest Baby on the Block DVD Excellent DVD! I taught child development for years and now as a grandmother I've recommended it to my daughter and daughter-in-law. I'm currently giving it to new parents as a part of a new baby gift. The tips in the DVD do work!
